Fill in the blanks in the following table, given that a is the first term, d the common difference and an is the nth term of the AP:

QuestionadnanSolution
(i)73828an = a + (n − 1)d
= 7 + (8 − 1)3
= 7 + 7 × 3
= 28
(ii)−1821000 = −18 + (10 − 1)d
18 = 9d
d = 18/9
= 2
(iii)46−318−5−5 = a + (18 − 1)(−3)
−5 = a − 17 × 3
−5 = a − 51
a = −5 + 51
= 46
(iv)−18.92.5103.63.6 = −18.9 + (n − 1)(2.5)
3.6 + 18.9 = (n − 1)(2.5)
22.5 = (n − 1)(2.5)
n − 1 = 22.5 ÷ 2.5
n − 1 = 9
n = 10
(v)3.501053.5an = 3.5 + (105 − 1)(0)

Key Concept: nth Term Formula

aₙ = a + (n − 1)d

Question 2.

Choose the correct choice and justify.

i) AP: 10, 7, 4, … యొక్క 30th term ఎంత?

a=10, d=7−10=−3 a₃₀ = 10 + (30−1)(−3) = 10 − 87 = −77 (Option C)

ii) AP: −3, −1/2, 2, … యొక్క 11th term ఎంత?

a=−3, d=−1/2−(−3)=5/2 a₁₁ = −3 + (11−1)(5/2) = −3 + 25 = 22 (Option B)

Question 3.

Find the missing terms in the boxes.

i) 2, ___, 26

a+d=13, a+3d=3 → తీసివేస్తే: 2d=−10 → d=−5 a = 13−(−5) = 18 AP: 18, 13, 8, 3

iii) 5, ___, ___, 9½

AP: a₁=5, a₄=19/2 d = (a₄−a₁)/3 = (19/2 − 5)/3 = (9/2)/3 = 3/2 AP: 5, 13/2, 8, 19/2

iv) −4, ___, ___, ___, ___, 6

a₁=−4, a₆=6. d=(6−(−4))/5 = 10/5 = 2 AP: −4, −2, 0, 2, 4, 6

v) ___, 38, ___, ___, ___, −22

a+d=38 … (1) a+5d=−22 … (2) (2)−(1): 4d=−60 → d=−15 a = 38−(−15) = 53 AP: 53, 38, 23, 8, −7, −22

Question 4.

Which term of the AP 3, 8, 13, 18, … is 78?

a=3, d=5 3 + (n−1)5 = 78 → (n−1)5=75 → n−1=15 → n=16

Question 5.

Find the number of terms.

i) 7, 13, 19, …, 205

a=7, d=6, l=205 7+(n−1)6=205 → (n−1)=33 → n=34

ii) 18, 15½, 13, …, −47

a=18, d=15.5−18=−5/2, l=−47 18+(n−1)(−5/2)=−47 → (n−1)(−5/2)=−65 → n−1=26 → n=27

Question 6.

Check whether −150 is a term of the AP 11, 8, 5, 2, …

a=11, d=−3 11+(n−1)(−3)=−150 → (n−1)=161/3

Question 7.

11th term = 38, 16th term = 73. Find 31st term.

a+10d=38 … (1) a+15d=73 … (2) (2)−(1): 5d=35 → d=7 a+70=38 → a=−32

a₃₁ = −32+30(7) = −32+210 = 178

Question 8.

AP has 50 terms, 3rd term=12, last term=106. Find 29th term.

a+2d=12 … (1) a+49d=106 … (2) (2)−(1): 47d=94 → d=2 a+4=12 → a=8

a₂₉ = 8+28(2) = 8+56 = 64

Question 9.

3rd term=4, 9th term=−8. Which term is zero?

a+2d=4 … (1) a+8d=−8 … (2) (2)−(1): 6d=−12 → d=−2 a−4=4 → a=8

8+(n−1)(−2)=0 → −2(n−1)=−8 → n−1=4 → n=5

Question 10.

17th term exceeds 10th term by 7. Find d.

a+16d = a+9d+7 7d=7 → d=1

Question 11.

Which term of AP 3, 15, 27, 39, … is 132 more than its 54th term?

a=3, d=12 nth term = 54th term + 132 3+(n−1)12 = 3+53(12)+132 (n−1)12 = 636+132 = 768 n−1=64 → n=65

Question 12.

Two APs same common difference. Difference of 100th terms = 100. Find difference of 1000th terms.

aₙ − bₙ = (a₁+(n−1)d) − (b₁+(n−1)d) = a₁ − b₁ (d cancels out)

∴ 1000th terms

Question 20.

a=5, d=1.75, l=20.75 (n−1)=(20.75−5)/1.75=9 → n=10

  • aₙ = a + (n−1)d
  • “Last term నుండి nth term” ప్రశ్నల్లో, common difference sign మారుతుంది (వెనక్కి లెక్కించేటప్పుడు −d వాడాలి)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. nth term formula ఏమిటి? aₙ = a + (n−1)d
